HVACRBUSINESS.Com HVACR Business J U N E 2 0 1 5 27 W ith truck and van models changing often, it can be a challenge to fnd the prop- er ft for all the necessary equipment technicians must carry on a daily basis. Jason Stom, CEO of Clear the Air LLC in Alvin, Texas — a 2014 Tops in Trucks Fleet Design Contest winner — strives to have a near zero will-call sys- tem. Effciently equipping his trucks is the key to achieving this. "Keeping the technicians out of the supply houses is imperative to keep ef- fcient," Stom says. "Our bin system is an important part of the process." Thanks to Clear the Air's inventory and warehouse management, its tech- nicians are replenished with the proper stock daily — and is provided with a de- tailed diagram of the inside of their ve- hicle, outlining where everything is. "He can look at one spot and know where to go," Stom explains. "This makes it easy for everyone, from the techni- cians to the warehouse manager." Stom uses a combination of metal shelving and bin system for his feet, and every van and truck is outftted with all the appropriate safety equipment. "Our vans have refrigerant tank stor- age and ladder racks," Stom says. "We also use GPS on all vehicles along with computer tablets for a paperless system." Keeping maintenance and repairs reasonable is another area that factors into Stom's decision on what to buy. "We're always trying to balance fuel effciency with the ability to have an effcient layout for ease of use and load capacity," he says. Stom also believes feet trucks and accessories will continue to grow fast, just like the computer industry, and will merge into all in one solution similar to the consumer auto industry options. "You will see touch screens more integrated into the feet safety systems and back offce connectivity," he says. "I am sure we'll also see more fuel effcient options once battery design and weight issues are further engineered for commercial applications."
